Cottage Grove, Minnesota is a suburb located eight miles south of St. Paul. Located on the north bank of the Mississippi River, Cottage Grove has more land adjacent to the Mississippi River than any other city in Minnesota. Cottage Grove is a growing community with access to parks, retail shops and great restaurants.
Cottage Grove was settled by New Englanders who brought the architecture of New England homes to the area. Many of these homes and buildings are still standing today which shows the influence of the early settlers. The original settlers moved to Cottage Grove because of the rich soil but turned to dairy farming making Cottage Grove famous for it’s creameries and dairy farms.
Cottage Grove was created from two towns: Old Cottage Grove and Langdon. The name Cottage Grove came from a New England settler who named his homestead Cottage Grove. Cottage Grove incorporated into a city in 1974.
In the 1950’s Cottage Grove began it’s boom that continues today with the development of Thompson Grove. Today there are several neighborhoods in Cottage Grove including: Whispering Oaks Neighbors, Spinnaker Cove, Pine Arbor Lodges, River Oaks, Pinecliff and Kingborough Woods.
Cottage Grove part of the South Washington County School District (Independent School District 833). It is served by four high schools (Park High, Woodbury High, East Ridge High, and Alternative Learning Center), four middle schools (Cottage Grove MS, Oltman MS, Lake MS, Woodbury MS), and 16 elementary schools. The district also has preschool programs for children three to five years old. The fourth high school, East Ridge High, opened in the fall of 2009 serving students in grades nine through eleven. East Ridge opened to twelfth graders in 2010.

The City of Cottage Grove owns and operates the Cottage Grove Ice Arena located on 80th Street next to the Park High School campus. The Cottage Grove Ice Arena plays host to the Park High School boys and girls hockey clubs, Cottage Grove Hockey Association, Cottage Grove Figure Skating Club and the Cottage Grove Skating School. The Ice Arena offers year round lessons, public skating, and hockey opportunities.
