There is no doubt that you know you can search for Minnesota homes online through the Multiple Listing Service, or MLS for short. But do you know how powerful the online MN MLS is and all the different ways you can search for Minnesota homes? In fact, right here on our website, you can search for your next home on Minnesota’s MLS system.
Before you begin searching for your dream home, we recommend creating a profile and saving it with the My Listing Manager tool available on our website. With My Listing Manager, you can search the MN MLS online, save your searches and have updates sent to you via email. We promise your information is secure and we will never rent, sell or spam your email address!
After creating a login with My Listing Manager you can perform the following searches:
The Basic Search for MN MLS online allows you to search for Minnesota and Western Wisconsin homes with the basic criteria of number of bedrooms and bathrooms, minimum list price, maximum list price, minimum square feet and maximum number of days listed on the market. You can search traditional single family homes, lots and land, multifamily residential (like duplexes) and commercial properties. You can search by city, county or zip code and if you click “Browse by City,” you can view all of the properties for sale in that city.
The Advanced Search for the MN MLS online includes all of the criteria in the Basic Search and so much more! You can search the following criteria under the Advanced Search:
- Transaction Type
- School District
- Potential Short Sale
- Foreclosure Status
- Lender Owned
- Water Front Name
- Lot Description
- Year Built
These advanced search options can be very powerful tools when looking for your next home. Let’s say you want to live in a certain subdivision. You can do an advanced search for that subdivision and then save the search to get notifications when homes come up for sale in the neighborhood. You could be one of the first people to see the listing by utilizing this search!
The Map Search on the MN MLS online is another option for looking in specific areas. This would be a good tool to use if you were looking in an area or neighborhood that bordered two suburbs. As you can see from the example below, the map shows home listings in both Apple Valley and Lakeville.
The Address Search on the MN MLS online is useful if you are looking at a particular street and want to know all of the houses for sale on that street. You can either enter in a specific address to pull up a single house or the street name to pull up all the houses for sale on that street. Again this is very powerful if you are looking to move to a specific neighborhood.
Listing ID Search
The Listing ID Search on the MN MLS online allows you to search for a home by its unique MLS number. When a house is listed on the MN MLS, it is given an individual listing number. Oftentimes Realtors will post the MN MLS listing number on for sale signs or in their flyers so that potential buyers can easily find the house.
In addition to these powerful tools for the MN MLS online, we also offer a free iPhone/iPad app that you can download directly from the iTunes store so you can search for homes on the go!
